Even today, in many factories and workshops, work pieces are placed into containers by hand after they have been cut to fixed lengths and de-burred and cleaned (if done). There is no economical alternative. Jointed-arm robots are not flexible enough for small lot sizes and variable container types. On the other side are buyers, particularly those from the automobile industry, who insist on packing guidelines that prescribe pieces per container and layer pattern. The RASAPORT portal robots combine short set-up times, easy adjustment to changing container formats and a favourable ROI. Depending on the configuration, the amortisation period comes to considerably less than 12 months.
